Family-Friendly Day Trips In The Swan Valley

There are some definite perks to living away from the hustle and bustle of inner city Perth. Within the scenic surrounds of the Swan Valley, and only minutes away from Bennett Springs, you’ll find a range of impressive family-friendly outings. Pack your picnic, pile the kids in the car and follow our lead for a relaxing day out in the valley.

Whiteman Park

An iconic destination for family day trips, Whiteman Park has been a top recreation spot for Perthians since 1986. Here you can take the kids on a heritage tram ride, visit the tractor or vintage motor museum and the local print shop. When the hunger strikes, grab a bite to eat at the Village Cafe or bring your snags and set up for lunch at one of the many public barbecues and picnic benches at the open park space. In the warm summer months, the little ones will love a wade in the nearby kids paddling pool.

Caversham Wildlife Park

Situated within the grounds of Whiteman Park, this animal sanctuary with a relaxed walk-through path enables you to get up close with kangaroos, wallabies and native birdlife. Be sure to take time to hand-feed a llama or pet a lamb at Molly’s Farm, or for those after the essential Australian animal experience, you can also meet a wombat or cuddle a furry koala.

Paintball Skirmish

Take the furry members of the family on a scenic 5km walk along the banks of the Swan River at Bells Rapids. Enjoy the scent of native flora as you wander through this untouched part of the Swan, which also serves as the ideal vantage point during the annual Avon Descent. Head there early morning or late afternoon and you might even spot a kangaroo or two.
